When i use Ubuntu, first thing is install gnome-session-fallback. Because i like classic app menu. But if u use Hopper Disassembler, i only run in unity (to display app menu). I found way to display app menu in gnome-session-fallback: 
<blockquote>
sudo apt-get install indicator-applet-appmenu
</blockquote>
After install it, move mouse to top panel, use Windows (Supper) key + Alt + Right Click, chose Add to panel/ select indicator-applet-appmenu, chose Add.
Now, you can use Unity app-menu
